The sixth edition of the volleyball tournament that triumphs on the coast of Calafell

 June 24, 2023

This past weekend saw the sixth edition of the KDM Beach Volley CUP 2023. A national beach volleyball tournament, co-organized by the Club Voleibol Calafell and KDM Events, with the support of the Calafell City Council, where the athletes from between the ages of 11 and 18 experienced beach volleyball, the sport, the atmosphere and the excitement on Calafell beach, Tarragona.

From Friday 16 to Sunday 18 June, the Costa Daurada hosted for the first time in the history of the tournament 78 teams and more than 525 people from 7 clubs in this beach volleyball party, thus being the edition of the tournament with more participation!

It should be noted that not only have the number of participating teams increased, but the categories of the competition have also increased. As a novelty, we have had 7 different categories: 4 women’s and 3 men’s, a significant increase where the men’s categories look to make a place and consolidate themselves in the tournament, historically women’s, after debuting for the first time last year.

All this growth would not be possible without the collaboration of the volunteers of the Associació Joves Dirigents Catalans (Jo-DiC) together with the refereeing team and the technical team, who with more than 40 people have made the smooth operation possible of the 255 matches played in the tournament.

Within all these matches, a special mention must be made of the finals, where in all the fights for first place in the men’s categories there have been derbies from the same club.

On the “Hotel Solimar” court, the winning team of the Men’s Boys category was decided, where Jaume Balmes White won by 2 sets to 1 over Jaume Balmes Vermell.

At the same time, on the “Turisme Calafell” track, AEE Jaume Balmes also had two of its teams playing for first place in the Men’s Cadet, where Jaume Balmes Negre finally emerged victorious after winning the semi-final at CV Rubi by 1 -2 and the final also won by the minimum difference.

Thus ending the men’s matches, the Montserrat Blau Cel team made an exceptional play-off, winning 2-0 in the semi-final against the Gorgs-Mimó Kappa team, and later 2-0 against Montserrat Taronja in the derby of AEE Montserrat Institute of Male Youth.

Moving on to the matches in the women’s categories, the surprise happened! Where the AEE Leonardo da Vinci, in its debut in the KDM Beach Volley CUP, won the Gold in the pre-child/juvenile female category against Montserrat Blanc in a contested match of 2 sets to 1.

The “EsportCat” court was responsible for hosting the final of the Women’s Children’s category, won by 2 sets by the Jaume Balmes Verd team.

Again, another derby was played on the “Hotel Solimar” track, this time for the AEE Institut Montserrat, where the Montserrat Taronja Juvenil Femení achieved first place in the category.

With regard to the Female Cadet category, a special mention must be made, since the category’s successful participation has been so positive, that the category had to be divided into 2 in order to offer more exciting and competitive matches to the 30 teams registered throughout the 94 games played in this category only.

Where CV Sant Martí Blau won the Cadet Calafell Women’s category in an exciting final at the “KDM Events” track by 2 sets to 1 against the Juame Balmes Groc team.

And just an hour earlier, the winners of the Cadet Segur Femení category were decided on the same track: El Jaume Balmes Lila, in a contested match against the Madrilenian team St Michaels Black.

At the end of this weekend full of competition and excitement, the awarding of trophies to the champion teams took place, with the presence of the tourism councilor of Calafell City Council, Lluisa Lastra Flores; and the medal presentation, where all participants received their commemorative tournament medal as well as participating in the final draws!

Finally, special mention must be made to our collaborators, without whom the KDM Beach Volley CUP 2023 would not have been so extraordinary: Jako, Ametller Origen, Aqualeon, Mikasa and Cocacola.

But, although the KDM Beach Volley CUP has ended its sixth edition, beach volleyball does not leave Calafell! On the weekends of July 22 and 23, and July 29 and 30, the KDM Beach Volley TOUR will take place, the popular circuit with 4×4 and 2×2 events. So, see you on the slopes!
